The Engagement

My fiancé didn’t exactly sweep me off my feet with a sparkling diamond ring. But he brought his family to meet mine and asked my parents’ permission to marry me. That’s how we got engaged.

His parents and sister were abroad so I only had the chance to meet them late last year. Not long after, they met my family too. My boyfriend then was quite decided to marry me so he didn’t waste any time in bringing the two families together.

Everything went well. There weren’t any objections from my parents, given that they are very particular if not strict about my life decisions and future. Everybody got along together well. There was laughter during lunch and a lot of talk about the wedding.

My fiancé and I have originally planned to get hitched on February 28, 2010, Sunday. However, my brother, his father and sister will not be able to come home. So, we moved it to June 5, 2010, Saturday. It has been agreed and scheduled in the church already.

If the original plan hasn’t changed, we would be getting married in a week’s time from now. But it’s OK. We can still wait a few more months.

Valentine’s Dinner at Amalfi Cucina Italiana

I wasn’t expecting to celebrate Valentine’s day with my fiance because the plan was to celebrate his mom’s birthday at the end of the month. Suddenly though, he decided to come home after all. He surprised me with a bouquet of carnation and gerbera on my doorstep. *awww*

We didn’t think about anything fancy to do on Valentine’s day. In fact, we just cooked some food at his place and sang along with the videoke. But he was unhappy with the spaghetti and siomai that we prepared so we figured we could grab a bite somewhere.

We’re both into Italian food, meaning, we love the Ps — pizza and pasta. And because it’s a special day, we went somewhere we’ve never been to before — Amalfi Cucina Italiana. It is located in The Avenue Complex, Glicerio Pison Avenue, Brgy. San Rafael, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

It was said on one of the restaurant reviews on the Internet that their food is a little bit expensive. True enough, our total bill could already feed more than 25 kids with Jollibee‘s 39-ers. But we left the place gorged with good food and overall satisfaction.

We had Insalata di Amalfi, Bolognese (Linguine pasta) and Salsiccia (pizza). I loved the salad best! I’ve never tasted anything like it before. The novelty of the taste is simply overwhelming. For the drinks, we had the Amalfi Iced Tea and Signature Cranberry Juice. We didn’t know that the juice comes in a bottle, which is good for two persons. But we didn’t regret getting the iced tea just for the heck of having tried it. *lol*

After dinner, my fiance and I wanted to drink ourselves tipsy, but given the hearty meal we had, we barely finished our bottle of alcohol.

That ends our hearty heart’s day. I hope and pray for more of these to come. Amen.

3 Books Down

Last year, my new year’s resolution was to finish reading a book each month. I did not exactly follow it but it was worth having it because I’ve at least finished a few.

This year, I’m holding on to that resolution. Now that I have nothing to keep me from enjoying my old hobby, I have finished reading 3 books in 1 month. I started reading 2 of them last year and 1 was actually sort of a short story than a book.

I’m a fan of the classics and I have quite a wide collection of such books. But I have not read everything yet.

Late last year, I picked up Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights from my collection. I think I’ve seen a MTV movie of this book, but I’m not too sure. Nevertheless, I read the book and halfway through, I decided to download the movie and watch it. I enjoyed the movie but I lost the interest in finishing the book. Somehow I already know how it’s going to end.

However, knowing that the reading experience is incomparable to watching the movie, I pushed through to the last pages. I’m glad I did because it was not quite what I’ve seen in the movie. There was so much more in the book.

Another one that I started last year was Paulo Coelho’s Eleven Minutes. I was also halfway through when I stopped. However, I started reading from the start when I decided to get back to it. It took me less than a day to finish the book.

It wasn’t something I’d call the story of my life, but there was so much in there that I can relate to.

I’m passing the book over to my fiancé because I think it’s also a book that men ought to read, although it doesn’t appear to be so.

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery is a very popular book for all ages. I have probably read that book when I was younger but it must have made no sense to me back then. So, when I found out that my fiancé has a copy of that book, I borrowed it right away.

The Little Prince has been praised by many. But I hope to do more than that. I will remember and live what I’ve learned from it, and share it to everybody. It’s definitely something I’d keep handy for a good read once in a while and for some inspiration.
